Portable Water Ionizers - The Basics

These are drops, tablets or powders that can be "dropped into" or added to water. They typically consist of minerals in liquid, powder or compressed tablet form, which interact with the water to elevate the pH and create a mild negative charge or ORP (oxidation reduction potential). While they are convenient - can be carried in a pocket or purse - most will typically have limitations with regard to how much of the product should be used in a 24-hour period. Also, these products offer no filtration - they are simply adding to/altering the water - whether it's filtered or not. If you want "clean" alkaline water you'll have to add start with water that has been filtered or purchase bottled water.

The size and portability of these products makes them convenient to carry and a good alternative for quick trips but you should continue the long-term expense of purchasing the product along with the cost of purchasing bottled water if you want to avoid the contaminants found in regular tap water. Finally, there shouldn't be a limit on how much of a natural substance you can consume in a day. Personally, I try to avoid using products with any sort of "do not exceed this much usage in this period of time" warnings.


Another popular choice are "stick" products when can be dropped into a bottle of water. These are a little less convenient than the drop-in portable alkalizing products but they can also be slightly more effective with regard to raising the ORP of the water.

What you don't get with these "stick" portable ionizers is filtration. While some reduce chlorine levels somewhat, others offer no filtration at all. Another thing you don't get is "instant" ionized water. Most of these products have to remain in contact with the water for up to 15 minutes before the water becomes fully "charged.
